EMERGENCY MEETING DUE TO HURRICANE DORIAN

GLYNN COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

State law allows the calling of a meeting without giving twenty-four hours’ notice when special circumstances exist.

 

On Friday, August 30, 2019, Governor Brian Kemp declared a State of Emergency for Glynn County and 11 other counties in Georgia due to Hurricane Dorian.

 

Chairman Browning called for this emergency meeting to consider declaring a State of Emergency for Glynn County. The legal organ, The Brunswick News, and other local media were notified via email and telephone of this meeting on Sunday, September 1, 2019. The meeting notice was also posted in county buildings and on the county’s website.

 

The local media was in attendance at the meeting.

 

Discussion and consideration of voting on the following:

 

1.         Consider adopting a resolution declaring a State of Emergency in Glynn County due to Hurricane Dorian

 

A motion was made by Commissioner Brunson and seconded by Commissioner Coleman to adopt a resolution declaring a State of Emergency in Glynn County. The motion carried unanimously. Resolution #R-22-19

 

Jay Wiggins, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency Director, provided an update on Hurricane Dorian.  He stated that they have activated evacuating the functional medical needs patients and will begin evacuating them in the morning. These are citizens who are homebound and cannot evacuate themselves and need assistance via ambulance or public safety personnel. He recommended making a decision on evacuating the remaining Glynn County population tomorrow. The Emergency Operations Center will be activated tomorrow at 8 am.

The Board did not hold an executive session during this meeting.
