Discussion and consideration of voting on the following:

1.         Receive an update regarding condemnation (Pamela Thompson)

Pamela Thompson, Community Development Director, reported that Cristy Yulista was hired in April to coordinate the abandonment and condemnation process. The process was formerly spearheaded by the Fire Marshall, and when Captain Johnson retired, the process was evaluated to find that about 80% of the work was administrative rather than field work. Since starting at Glynn County, Ms. Yulista has worked on 6 properties in April and 45 properties in May. Ms. Thompson then highlighted a few of the properties Ms. Yulista has worked on.

Will Worley, Senior Assistant County Attorney, informed the Board on the nuisance abatement ordinance that the County Attorney’s office working on updating. The biggest changes will include the building inspection department doing the preliminary inspections and determinations, going through Magistrate Court rather than Superior Court, and the procedure for getting a lien on the property will be more straightforward. Mr. Worley also outlined the current process that has to be followed before a property is condemned and how a lien is placed on a property.  REPORT
