State law allows the calling of a meeting without giving twenty-four hours’ notice when special circumstances exist.

On Tuesday, October 4, 2016, Governor Nathan Deal declared a State of Emergency for Glynn County and 12 other coastal counties in Georgia due to Hurricane Matthew. Chairman Strickland called for this emergency meeting to consider declaring a State of Emergency for Glynn County.

The legal organ, The Brunswick News, and other local media were notified via email and telephone of this meeting on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. The meeting notice was also posted in county buildings and on the county’s website.

The local media was in attendance at the meeting.

 

1.         Discuss Hurricane Matthew and consider a resolution declaring a State of Emergency in Glynn County.

 

Chairman Strickland announced that Glynn County schools would be closed Thursday and Friday. County offices would be closed Friday.

A voluntary evacuation was called for citizens living on the barrier islands, in the low lying areas of the county, and in mobile homes.

The air show scheduled for Saturday, October 8 was canceled.

The Blythe Island Regional Park was closed and evacuated.

The Need a Ride program would pick up citizens from Harris Teeter and Lanier Plaza.

A motion was made by Commissioner Provenzano and seconded by Commissioner Coleman to adopt a resolution declaring a State of Emergency for Glynn County. The motion carried unanimously. Resolution #R-42-16

 

A motion was made by Commissioner Stambaugh and seconded by Commissioner Coleman to cancel the Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting scheduled for October 6, 2016. The motion carried unanimously.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION/POST EXECUTIVE SESSION ACTION

 

The Board did not hold an executive session during this meeting.

 

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
