2.                  Receive a report on Glynn County’s beach safety initiative

Staff proposed guarding the beaches between the Coast Guard Station and Massengale Park from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The proposal included building a tower, increasing the number of lifeguards to nine, adding more lifeguard stands, adding an ATV, jet skis, and increasing the number of kayaks. The cost for these additional items at the beginning of the 2014 beach season is $52,211 plus $93,816 in one-time capital purchases. The budget increase for the 2015 beach season is $95,484. The cost of the 2013 beach season was $60,000.

Due to time constraints, the Chairman asked staff to place this item on its January 2014 work session agenda for further discussion. Recreation Director Wesley Davis asked the Commissioners to let him know if they wanted staff to make any adjustments to the proposal.
