Discussion and consideration of the following:

1.         Sewer line at the new Sheriff’s Complex/Detention Center

Jim Ingram, of IPG, Inc., the architect overseeing the construction of the new detention center near the Public Works compound, advised the Board the contractor, Allstate Construction, Inc., had provided a 20-year cost savings estimate to install an off-site forced main system for the sewage system at the jail versus a gravity sewer main system. The estimated savings over 20 years was $122,393.

The Board discussed the pros and cons of the force main system versus a gravity sewer main system and whether the Joint Water and Sewer Commission (JWSC) may be willing to service the force main system and lift station. Commissioner Provenzano, the County’s representative on the JWSC, agreed to contact the JWSC and report back to the Board.

The Board decided to place this item on its Finance Committee meeting agenda scheduled for May 7, 2013, for further discussion with a final recommendation to be provided to the Board at its May 16, 2013 meeting.

2.         The FY 14 proposed budget

The Board met again with Sheriff Neal Jump regarding his proposed FY14 budget. The Board also met with Juvenile Court Judge George Rountree, Public Works Director Becky Rowell, and Recreation Director Wesley Davis to discuss their FY14 budget requests.  The next budget work session was scheduled for May 15, 2013.
