Search Begins for New County ManagerOn April 1, 2021, the Board of Commissioners voted to approve a professional services agreement with Mercer Group Associates, who will provide executive search and recruiting services to Glynn County for the position of the County Manager. Mercer Group Associates also conducted the Brunswick City Manager search in 2019. Based on the timeline set forth by Mercer Group Associates, the Commission anticipates interviewing final candidates as soon as the end of May, with a new County Manager in place as early as July. Additionally, the Glynn County Board of Commissioners voted to amend County Manager Alan Ours’s employment contract. Earlier this year Ours announced a resignation date of August 27, 2021. The revised contract will pay Ours his normal salary through his resignation date, but will relieve him of his County Manager responsibilities.
Ours has diligently served Glynn County for the past ten years. A tenure that is atypical for most city and county administrators. Before joining Glynn County, Ours worked for various local governments in South Carolina and Georgia, serving as County Manager in Lowndes County, GA, Pickens County, SC, and Lee County, GA. In addition to his extensive work experience, Ours has also served in various civic and community service leadership roles including the positions of Vice President on the ICMA Executive Board, President of the Georgia City-County Management Association, and Chairman on the United Way Board of Directors. Ours is a dedicated public servant and an exceptional leader. The staff at Glynn County wish him the best as he moves forward in his professional journey.
Glynn County Commission Chairman Wayne Neal stated, “We appreciate all the work and dedication Alan has given to Glynn County over the past decade as a local government professional. He is leaving behind a professional and capable staff who will continue to serve the citizens of Glynn County and provide support to the new County Manager.”

Dream ParadeEarly in March, several of Glynn County's Public Safety Departments had the privilege of partnering with the organization Dreams Come True to create a Surprise Dream Shopping Parade for St. Simons Island resident Ellie, a 13 year old girl diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer. Along with other residents, firetrucks, police cars, and EMS vehicles filled Ellie's street with each driver and passenger showering her with gifts, support, and words of encouragement.
Dreams Come True is the First Coast’s only locally-based, wish granting organization dedicated to using the power of a dream to bring hope and joy to EVERY First Coast child battling a life-threatening illness. You can watch Ellie's Dream Parade here, and learn more about this organization and their mission on their website.

Tornado PreparationAs the weather improves with the Spring season, unfortunately, so do the conditions that tornadoes thrive under. Tornadoes are nature’s most violent storms, and they are Georgia’s No. 1 weather-related killer. They can develop without warning and oftentimes can be hidden by trees or rain. Be prepared to act quickly. Planning and practicing specifically how and where you take shelter is a matter of survival. Tornadoes can occur at any time of the year, making advance preparation vitally important.
Before A Tornado - A storm can strike suddenly and it may occur when family members are in different places, so develop a family communications plan .
- Make a Ready kit for at least three days of self-sufficiency.
- Familiarize yourself with the terms that are used to identify a tornado hazard.
- A tornado watch means weather conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop.
- A tornado warning means either a tornado is occurring or expected to develop shortly in your area, and you need to take shelter immediately.
- Be alert to changing weather conditions. Look for approaching storms.
- Determine in advance where you will take shelter in case of a tornado warning.
- Storm cellars or basements provide the best protection.
- If underground shelter is not available, an interior room or hallway on the lowest floor possible is the best option.
- In a high-rise building, go to a small interior room or hallway on the lowest floor possible.
- Consider building a safe room. You can find plans for building or reinforcing an interior room to provide better protection on the Federal Emergency Management Agency website.
- Listen to NOAA Weather Radio, commercial radio, television newscasts for the latest information. In any emergency, always listen to the instructions given by local emergency management officials.
- Register for CodeRED to receive emergency notifications directly from Glynn County. You can also listen to FM Radio 104.9, Glynn County's Emergency Advisory Radio System.

Just as the ladies at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church begin to prepare for their annual Homecoming celebration, robbery and murder turn everything upside down in this usually idyllic spot.
