PUBLIC NOTICE
Comprehensive Plan Steering Committees
Glynn County is embarking on a Comprehensive Plan update, which is intended to establish the direction for our County over the next 10 years. This is an extremely important project as it will address topics such as land use, economic development, housing, transportation, historic and natural resources, community facilities and infrastructure, and resiliency. Most importantly, this plan will include a Character Area analysis and update to the Future Development map that will guide future zoning ordinance amendments.
It is the intention of Glynn County Board of Commissioners (BOC) that this plan be “community-authored,” and that the citizens of Glynn County provide direction to County staff and consultants on the goals and strategies needed to achieve the citizens’ vision for the County. In order to ensure that this Comprehensive Plan presents a true reflection of this community, the BOC will be forming two Steering Committees, one for St. Simons/Sea Island and one for the Mainland. Each Steering Committee will consist of seven (7) citizen members appointed by the BOC, three (3) Planning Commission members appointed by the Chairman of each Planning Commission, and seven (7) citizens in the County chosen through a “blind application” process by the Glynn County Planning Department and their Planning Consultant to be representative of County demographics.
The Steering Committees will each meet once per month between September and December of 2017. Some of the activities that the Steering Committee will undertake include, but are not limited to: visioning exercises, SWOT analysis (identification of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats), land use analysis, and Character Area/Future Development Strategy update. Members of the Steering Committees will be asked to go out into their communities to gather additional public input, and encourage participation in the planning process.
If you would like to be considered for appointment by the Board of Commissioners, please submit your letter and/or resume to Cindee Overstreet, County Clerk, The Harold Pate Building, 1725 Reynolds Street, Suite 302, Brunswick, GA 31520 or via email to cindee@glynncounty-ga.gov. Citizens appointed by the Board of Commissioners may only serve on one County board or committee. Resumes will be accepted until close of business on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, and may also be faxed to 912/554-7596.
If you prefer to apply through the “blind application” process, please visit this link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GlynnCoSteeringCommittee and complete the application. You may also the submit an application through the Glynn County Community Development Department, The Harold Pate Building, Suite 200, Brunswick, GA 31520.
