Hazardous Weather Statement Wed. Aug. 24, 2011 10:00 A.M.


THIS OUTLOOK IS FOR NORTHEAST FLORIDA AND SOUTHEAST GEORGIA.

...INCREASING THREAT OF RIP CURRENTS AT AREA BEACHES...
...IRENE FORECAST TO PASS WELL EAST OF THE AREA ON FRIDAY...
SOUTHEASTERLY SWELLS FROM HURRICANE IRENE WILL INCREASE TODAY AND
BRING A MODERATE RISK OF RIP CURRENTS AT AREA BEACHES.
HIGH ASTRONOMICAL TIDES ARE EXPECTED LATE THIS WEEK AS WELL.
BEACHFRONT INTERESTS SHOULD PLAN ON SECURING OBJECTS VULNERABLE TO SURF ACTION PRIOR TO THE HIGH SURF DEVELOPING. TROPICAL STORM FORCE WIND GUSTS OF 40 MPH OR HIGHER ARE POSSIBLE OVER THE COASTAL WATERS AND PORTIONS OF THE ATLANTIC COASTAL COUNTIES FROM THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT. ON THE PRESENT FORECAST TRACK...THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL LIKELY BE NEAR THE ATLANTIC COAST. IN THESE AREAS...1 TO 3 INCH RAIN TOTALS ARE
POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY WHERE MORE PERSISTENT RAIN BANDS DEVELOP.
INTERESTS IN THE AREA SHOULD CONTINUE TO CLOSELY MONITOR THE
OFFICIAL FORECASTS ON IRENE.
LOCAL INTERESTS ARE URGED TO MONITOR NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND LOCAL
MEDIA FOR THE PROGRESS OF THE STORM AND REMAIN ALERT FOR POSSIBLE
WATCHES OR WARNINGS.
