Citizen's Academy 

Our mission is the education of Glynn County citizens in the operations and practices of their Glynn County Police Department. The program encourages participants to provide invaluable feedback necessary to foster enhanced police/community relations. The Glynn County Citizen’s Academy includes twenty-plus hours of skilled and professional instruction delivered in two-hour sessions. We require a one-night per week commitment over a nine-week period. There is no cost to attend. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Unless otherwise specified, the Citizen’s Academy will be held at: Glynn County Police Headquarters, 157 Carl Alexander Way, Brunswick, Georgia 31525,

Classes topics may include:

Department Overview (which will include the Command Staff), Evidence and Crime Scene, 911, Traffic Division, K-9, Response to Resistance, AXON/Technology in Policing Overview (DRONES, Body Cam, etc.), SWAT, Behavioral Health Response Unit, Office of Professional Standards (Department and Officer Accountability – Overview), Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division (which includes the Major Crimes Unit and Special Investigations Unit), Training Unit, and more! The Citizen’s Academy is an educational experience that does not confer any type of training or accreditation upon students. Students of the Citizen’s Academy are not employees or agents of the Glynn County Police Department.

HOW ARE PARTICIPANTS SELECTED?

The Glynn County Police Department strives to reflect a diverse group of participants. Applicants will be evaluated and notified when they are selected to participate, and the Glynn County Police Department retains full discretion in determining an applicant’s selection for the program and any topics covered by classes in the program. Potential candidates for the Citizen’s Academy should meet, but are not limited to, the following criteria:

•Be a resident of Glynn County

•Minimum age of 18 years

•No felony convictions

•No misdemeanor convictions within one year before application

•No pending criminal or civil cases involving the Glynn County Police Department

•After completion of the application, consent forms, and waiver forms, a standard background check will be completed.
