Tax Exemptions

FILE FOR HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION YEAR ROUND
Beginning June 1, 2005, a homeowner may file an application for homestead exemption for their home and land acquired prior to January 1 of the taxable year up to and including April 1 of the following taxable year (SB393, Session 2003-2004).
Each resident of Glynn county is granted an exemption on that person's homestead form all Glynn County ad valorem taxes for county purposes in the amount of $8,000 of the assessed value of that homestead. Homestead exemption can be applied to mobile homes only when the owner owns and resides on the land on which the mobile home is located.
In addition, each resident of Glynn County who is a senior citizen (62 years or older - proof of age required) is granted an exemption from all Glynn County ad valorem taxes for county purposes in the amount of either:
  1. 10,000 of the assessed value of that homestead, if that person's income, together with the income of the spouse of such person who resides within such homestead, does not exceed $20,000 for the immediately preceding taxable year, or*
  2. 8,000 of the assessed value of that homestead, (not based on income)*
*A person shall not receive either homestead exemption granted by (a or b) unless the person or person's agent files an affidavit with the tax office.

Full Exemption


Homeowners 65 years of age (proof of age required) or older on January 1, who meet the special requirements are entitled to a 4,000 homestead exemption.**Please phone the office for special requirements (912) 554.7000.

School Exemption

Homeowners who are 62 years or age (proof of age required) or older on January 1, who meet special requirements are entitled to the school exemption on the first 10,000 and 2,000 for county purposes.**Please phone the office for special requirements (912) 554.7000.

Homeowners who are 65 years of age (proof of age required) or older on January 1, who meet the special requirements are entitled to the school exemption on the first 10,000 and 4,000 for county purposes. ***Please phone the office for special requirements (912) 554.7000.

Homeowners who are 65 years of age (proof of age required) or older on January1, and whose income together with the income of the spouse does not exceed $40,000 for the immediately preceding year may claim an additional exemption from School Ad valorem tax. ***Please phone the office for special requirements (912) 554.7000.

Veteran Exemption


Disabled Veterans Exemption inquiries must be made at 1803 Gloucester Street, Brunswick, Georgia 31520.

These exemptions will be granted automatically each year provided there are no changes in the status.

Preferential Assessment
Certain classifications of tangible real property MAY qualify for preferential assessment provided they meet the criteria specified by Georgia law. The classifications are:
  1. Property devoted to agricultural purposes
  2. Rehabilitated historic property
  3. Landmark historic property
  4. Residential transitional property
  5. Conservation use property
